Outstanding Opportunities For Youth Here at Prince of Peace
Our middle school youth (6th,7th, & 8th grade) participate in Confirmation classes during the Sunday School hour every week. Our Pastor leads the class, teaching on the Old and New Testament, Luther’s Catechisms, what it means to be a Lutheran and to confirm our faith in Jesus Christ. Eighth graders will have the opportunity to be confirmed (making a personal profession of faith) in May.
Parents are encouraged to attend class with their students. Questions about confirmation? Please contact Pastor Kollmeyer or Pastor Scott.
Each Sunday, our high school students meet for Bible Study and reflection on living our faith in the world today. Focusing on current topics and trends, this is a safe place for conversation and discussion. Led by Mrs. Paula and our adult leaders.
Wednesday’s are for fellowship, food, faith and fun! We keep a busy schedule, complete with Bible study, service projects, serving during special worship services, planning Youth Sunday, fundraising projects, and even outings. Youth from sixth through twelfth grade are welcome to join us. Note that we do not meet during school breaks.
Each summer, Prince of Peace sends mission teams to serve in areas recently affected by natural disasters. Teaming up with local and national organizations (including Habitat for Humanity, Lutheran Disaster Response, Catholic Charities), allows our teams to work with individuals and families who are still rebuilding post-disaster. Previous trips have given us opportunities to help with clean-up efforts, demolition, reconstruction and finishing touches.
Our College Mission trip usually falls the first week of June, while our High School Mission Trip falls in mid-July. Dates and places are announced in mid to late spring. Previous trips include: Wilmington, NC for Hurricane Florence relief; Corpus Christi, TX for Hurricane Harvey relief; and St. Augustine, FL for Hurricane Irma relief.
Each summer, our Confirmation middle school students encouraged ard invited to attend "Campformation” at Lutheridge summer camp. Held in the mountains of North Carolina, this week-long camp experience is a week of learning about faith along with lots of outdoor fun. High schoolers may attend Lutheridge, Lutherock or Lutheranch which has camping, repelling, whitewater rafting and many other adventures to select from and dates throughout the summer.
Pastor and Elaine Kollmeyer accompany the Prince of Peace middle school group and also lead the daily bible activities. Dates for Lutheridge are announced in January/February for the following summer.
Once a year, our youth group plan “Youth Sunday”. From the music, to the sermon, to the ushers, our youth take over and lead worship at both the contemporary and traditional services. The youth of today are tomorrow’s leaders- and this experience proves the truth of that statement!
